The Upland High School Math Department is composed of teachers who work tirelessly and collaborate for the betterment of our students. We strive to continually improve our content knowledge and instructional techniques while remaining approachable and responsive to all students’ needs. We offer a diverse range of courses that provide challenges for all students. The courses employ varied instructional methods and utilize online platforms that focus on exploratory learning, procedural fluency and mastery of mathematics. We offer core classes from the traditional Common Core pathway including Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. In addition, we offer Honors Geometry, Honors Algebra II, Math Analysis, Probability and Statistics, and Business Algebra II. Our students also have the opportunity to earn college credit by completing the requirements for AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, and AP Computer Science. Some of our math department teachers also instruct courses in the Career Technical Education fields of digital electronics, computer essentials and engineering. For students that want to solidify their conceptual understanding of mathematics before entering college, we offer MRWC (Mathematical Reasoning With Connections). This is a collaborative, fourth-year math course that seeks to connect and extend all high school mathematical concepts with a focus on student discovery.
The teachers in the math department take pride in offering a multitude of opportunities for students to receive additional support outside of class time. Many teachers offer individual tutoring for their students. In addition to this, a Math Lab is open for walk-in help at least twice a week and is staffed by math department teachers. Also, student tutors provide tutoring and homework help for all subjects in the library after school almost every school day.
