PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The EAsY Agri Program is a college scholarship grant in support of the children of smallholder farmers and fishers who are inclined to agriculture, providing them equal opportunities to pursue a Degree Program in the field of agriculture and other related courses.
GOAL
The program aims to contribute to the improvement of competitiveness of Philippine agriculture towards achieving food security and alleviation of the socio-economic status of families in the AF sector.
OBJECTIVES
The EAsY Agri program aims to produce agricultural professionals and/or new breeds of farmers who are equipped with the necessary knowledge and technical skills in putting up agribusiness enterprises.
Specifically, the scholarship program shall:
Provide education support to the capable and deserving youth, particularly the children of smallholder farmers and fishers towards the completion of their chosen Bachelor’s Degree course in agriculture, fisheries, and other related courses; and
Encourage the youth to pursue professional career in agriculture and/or venture to agripreneurship after graduation.
Overall, there are 696 scholars. Of which, 193 (31%) from the first batch have already graduated, and 429 (69%) are ongoing scholars. The scholars was terminated due to health reasons, failing grades, shifting of course, and other personal issues.
There are around 10% of scholars who have been terminated or voluntarily withdrawn, hence a strengthened monitoring mechanisms from the Central Office and the Regional Training Centers, and mentorship are hereby recommended.
Further, since almost 45% were not yet licensed and only 38% of the graduates were not employed, an advisory and support mechanisms for licensure and employment are recommended. To date, memorandum to RTCs regarding the scholars return service were released.
Remarkably, the program caters to graduates of agriculture and agriculture-related courses, which supports the main goal of the program to support, empower, and engage the youth in agricultural development. Additionally, the program underscores the vital contributions of women in agriculture, actively challenging the persistent stereotype that the sector is predominantly male-driven.
