My research interests lie primarily in the areas of Middle Eastern politics, nationalism, the Kurdish question, and international relations. This webpage showcases some of my recent publications that explore these themes.
The Republic of Kurdistan, 1946 (Unpublished PhD Dissertation, Leiden University, 2012): This dissertation delves into a critical juncture in Kurdish history – the establishment and subsequent fall of a short-lived Kurdish government in Iran in 1946. It examines the role of regional powers, the rise of Kurdish nationalism, and the broader context of the Middle East in the aftermath of World War II.
Political Impact of Nationalism Theories on Kurdish Nationalism (Newroz University, 2024): This article explores the theoretical underpinnings of Kurdish nationalism. I analyse how various theories of nationalism have influenced the Kurdish national movement and its ongoing struggle for self-determination.
Characteristics of the Emergence of Nation and Its Impact on Kurdish Nationalism (Journal of University of Duhok, 2022): This publication examines the concept of nationhood and its historical development. I then explore how these characteristics have manifested within the Kurdish context and shaped the trajectory of Kurdish nationalism.
Organization and Mobilization of the Liberation Movement in the Context of Nationalism: The Case of Ayatollah Revolution (1961-1975) (Journal of University of Duhok (Humanities & Social Sciences), 2021): This article looks at the role of nationalism in mobilizing revolutionary movements. I use the case study of the Ayatollah Revolution in Iran (1961-1975) to illustrate how nationalist sentiments can be a powerful force for political change.
Beyond Black and White: Islam and Modernity (Jangal, Iran-Theran, 2020): This publication explores the complex relationship between Islam and modernity. I argue that this relationship is not one of inherent conflict, but rather one of negotiation and adaptation.
Popular Mobilization Forces: From Militia to State Regular Forces, A Descriptive Study of the Establishment and Development (Journal of University of Duhok (Humanities & Social Sciences), 2017): This article examines the rise of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in Iraq. I trace the PMF's evolution from a militia group to a more formalized state security force, analyzing the political and social factors that contributed to this transformation.
Iranian Political Location after 5+1 Agreement (Humanities Journal of University of Zakho (HJUOZ), 2017): This publication explores the impact of the Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA) on Iranian foreign policy. I analyze how the agreement influenced Iran's position within the regional and international political landscape.
State-Society Relations in Turkey (Journal of University of Duhok (Humanities & Social Sciences), 2016): This article examines the historical and contemporary dynamics of state-society relations in Turkey. I explore the ongoing tension between secularism and Islam, as well as the challenges posed by Kurdish nationalism to the Turkish state.
De Islam in het denken van Afghani en Abduh: religieuze inspiratie of politiek opportunisme (Utrecht University, 2006): (This title is in Dutch and translates to "Islam in the Thought of Afghani and Abduh: Religious Inspiration or Political Opportunism?") This early work explores the ideas of Islamic reformers Jamal al-Din al-Afghani and Muhammad Abduh. I analyze their views on modernization, Islamic revival, and the role of religion in society.
I am actively engaged in ongoing research projects, and I look forward to sharing my future publications with you. In the meantime, I welcome any feedback or inquiries you may have about my work.
