University Schools Instructional Playbook

Summary

To ensure the strategies in this playbook are backed by research and best practice, each strategy is connected to its corresponding Hattie Effect Size. John Hattie's research is based on decades of meta-analyses (now covering over 1,200 meta-analyses) that answer the question, "What works best in education?" He found that the average effect size of all studied interventions was 0.4 and, therefore, determined that an effective intervention was anything above that hinge point. An essential part of an instructional coach’s work is providing resources for teachers to help implement new teaching strategies, and an instructional playbook can be one of the most effective tools to ensure that teachers reach the goals they set with their coach (instructionalcoaching.com).
