College Counseling
University Lake School is rooted in college preparation and is redoubling our efforts to highly individualized ambitious college counseling. The mission-aligned program commits to guiding our students onto their next grand adventure where they will inspire intellectual curiosity, original thinking, personal integrity, and character through service. College counseling requires understanding and appreciating our students and their goals and passions, and helping them discover opportunities to bring their dreams to life. Lakers are poised for great purpose and impact as critical thought leaders and stewards of humanity, and we are honored to share this journey.
ULS proudly celebrates a 100% college acceptance rate, millions of dollars awarded in scholarships annually, and admissions into excellent universities across the country. Recent graduates have earned acceptances to University of Chicago, Notre Dame, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, Duke, Dartmouth, Middlebury, and Vanderbilt, and many have continued graduate school at prestigious institutions like Brown, MIT, and Julliard.
School Philosophy
ULS is an independent, college-preparatory school situated on a sprawling 180 acre forested campus. Students walk between buildings for classes, wave hello to their little buddies, and spend P.E. classes on the winding wooded trails. With plenty of outdoor classroom space, the Pabst athletic fields, a prairie restoration site, and even some chickens and goats, ULS’ expansive natural space is teeming with energy and Laker spirit.
We foster the whole student: academically and socially, artistically and athletically. Our dynamic curriculum with small-by-design classes empowers our students to dive deep into thinking critically, cultivating transferable skills that will serve them in life. Athletes compete at the varsity level in a variety of sports with our no-cut policy, and our award-winning fine arts program pushes students beyond their comfort zone creatively. Extracurriculars such as clubs and service further enrich the greater Laker community.
Annual Experiences
Intersession transcends traditional curriculum and offers the opportunity for students to delve deep into a topic of interest. Experiential in nature, time is allotted for off-campus travel both near and far. From studying the wildlife on the Galápagos Islands to learning sports marketing from Milwaukee Bucks executives, innovative ideas stem from student interest and findings are shared with the community. We bring our students and our classrooms out into the world for once-in-a-lifetime learning.
Upper Schoolers embark on Leadership Retreats each year. Our decades-long tradition of camping in the Northwoods allows uninterrupted time to bond, develop intangible skills, and experience the outdoors. Canoe trips, high ropes courses, bonfires, hikes, and family-style meals are a few of the activities on the agenda. Students bring home a bit of that magic, uniquely prepared to take on the school year.
