Exploring Colleges

University Lake School coordinates with universities from all across the country (and some even abroad!) to meet our students as an opportunity to explore colleges while also demonstrating interest to admissions representatives. In turn, the colleges get to know our school and its students – what a great chance to make an impression!

Rep visits are scheduled during all periods. Active participation is expected – ask questions, interact, and network. Academics remain the most important part of a student’s high school career, both on a practical and philosophical level. If a college is visiting during one of a regularly scheduled class, students must request permission from their teacher at least one day in advance. Forms will be housed outside the college counseling classroom, Upper School main office, and Google Classroom, and will serve as your ticket in the door. 

Deciding on a college is a two-way street: you are “interviewing” them as much as they are “interviewing” you. Read these two websites for tips on attending college fairs: IvyWise and College Essay Guy. Fairs are not simply about collecting the most college swag (although there will be plenty of time to do so) – they’re about making connections, learning about schools, and helping to inform your future decisions. Ask questions, take notes, and have fun!
