Preparing for Your Trash Assessment

Different Trash Levels

Before you can assess your campus you have to know the different levels of surface trash.

Here is a trash table that shows the different levels and shows the trash code and the different colors.

Trash Level Trash Code Colors

A No Litter Green

B Little Litter Yellow

C Littered Red

D Very Littered Purple

*Remember leaves are not considered litter*

You also need to identify the PLU you have on your campus and section your campus into small chunks.

Public transportation:

We had a parking lot

Commercial:

We have a cafeteria

Industrial:

We have storage areas

It is important to create transect lines in each of your sections. This will allow groups to collect data that is the same over time.

We did not chose this because it is too out of order and not organized at all.

We didn't do this because there are to many transect lines and it will take to long.

This is the format we used because it is simple and allows visual access to both sides.
