Protection Strategies
Bringing SALSA solutions from research to real farming conditions
SALSA will bring the most promising solutions selected during laboratory and greenhouse experiments into real agricultural settings. By combining scientific evidence with farmers’ experience, the project will develop and validate practical crop protection strategies for tomato and grapevine across the Mediterranean area.
Effective strategies are co-designed with farmers, advisors and researchers, considering local conditions and real farming needs.
From Controlled Conditions to the Field Trials
We compare current farm practice with SALSA strategies in real field conditions to measure what works best.
What will be evaluated?
Crop Protection
Effectiveness against key pests and diseases
Field Performance
Impact on yield and crop quality
Application Strategy
Optimal timing and application methods
Practical Feasibility
Fit with farm routines, resources and costs
A Mediterranean Network of Field Trials
SALSA will establish a network of validation and demonstration sites involving tomato farms and vineyards across the Mediterranean area.
The trials will cover different climatic zones, soil characteristics, crop varieties and production systems. This geographical diversity will make it possible to assess how local environmental and agricultural conditions influence the performance of the proposed strategies.
Testing the solutions across multiple sites and growing seasons will also help identify which approaches are locally specific and which have the potential to be transferred to other Mediterranean farming systems.
Farmers at the Centre
Farmers are acrive partners throghout the project. Their knoledge and feedback help shape strategies, solve practical challanges and ensure solutions fit local needs.
