Y-Team Page - Mrs. Thoennes

Hello Y-team students and families! Welcome to a new school year! I hope you're excited to begin 6th grade, the start of middle school.

I am entering my 29th year of teaching, 28 of them in middle school in Unit 5. I earned my undergraduate degree at ISU in Middle School Education with endorsements in all content areas and K-9 certification, and finished my masters in Teaching with Technology at WGU, online during COVID. Most of my career has been at PJHS, however I did teach four years at Kingsley when it opened. I've served as an Advanced Learner Specialist early in my career for the district working with gifted students, but mostly I've been in the classroom with 7th and 8th grade students. This year marks my fifth year teaching my favorites, 6th graders! While I've enjoyed teaching Science and Language Arts over the years, Math is my favorite subject to teach, eventhough I wasn't good at it as a student.

Away from school, I enjoy spending time in the backyard, sitting on the porch, riding around with Mr. Thoennes (your Science teacher) in our Jeep with the doors and roof off, scrapbooking, and teaching piano lessons (and I have openings!). My favorite place to be is at the beach in Florida, feeling the ocean breeze with my toes in the sand! My favorite thing to do is cheer on our son, Kyle, a freshman football player, studying Mechanicaly Engineering at an Indiana college this year!

Families, as we progress though the year, I will periodically update you through Math Moments with Mrs. Thoennes, a newsletter sharing information from math class and tips to help you cheer on and encourage your student.

Students, I look forward to learning and growing with you, while guiding and supporting you through all of the challenges math class and 6th grade may bring.
