Hi, 6B students and families!  My name is Ms. Franks and I’ll be your 6th Grade Lit and Comp teacher.  It’s my 13th year teaching, 8th year as a middle school reading teacher, 3rd year at Evans, and 1st year on 6B.  I’m so excited to spend this year with you as we grow in our reader’s workshop!  Get ready to talk about texts and grow your skills!

A little bit more about me:

I grew up in Hudson, Illinois, and graduated from Normal West. I got my undergraduate teaching degree from the University of Illinois, then spent my first 6 years teaching in Denver, Colorado, where I got my Master’s from the University of Colorado-Denver.  My husband is a Jr. High Social Studies teacher, and together we moved to Qatar to teach abroad for 4 years in 2017.  We returned home in 2021, and I have been teaching in Unit 5 since!  I spent the last two years working as an MTSS/Literacy interventionist.  I have a two-year-old son named Remy, and I’m sure you’ll hear a LOT about him this year.  My ideal classroom is one where we all work hard to understand, share our ideas, vibe well together, and learn about our world through texts we enjoy.

Some of my favorite things:

Lounging with my family, reading, playing/watching/coaching soccer, cooking, coffee, and traveling.
