“The single raindrop never feels responsible for the flood.” - Douglas Adams
H2ONoGo is addressing the problem of floods in urban areas such as Ciputra. We are focusing on SDG 11.5; this specific problem is a geographical barrier to human development. Recently, a series of typhoons hit across Asia and damaged many households and blocked roads, caused by the prolonged heavy rains exceeding the drainage capacity. In 2020, Central Vietnam floods caused 192 deaths and 57 missing people, damaging and destroying over 49,930 hectares of crops, causing significant crop destruction, resulting in economic losses of VND 35,180,997,000. Hanoi is a city built along rivers, so rainfall exceeds the capacity of the Red River’s drainage system, and the river itself will become a source of flooding and raise water levels. An organization trying to reduce the barrier is the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention. This organization has reduced barriers by working with the Hanoi People's Committee and has agreed to build a drainage line and a culvert section through the dike, which will benefit urban areas. This is why H2ONoGo has the mission statement of making a source of flood control to help Hanoi citizens and the flood’s effect on their households and roads in Hanoi.
