Criterion A - Inquiring and Analyzing
Explain and justify the need for a solution to a problem for a specified client/target audience
7-8 The team explains and justifies the need for a solution to a problem for a client/target audience
As a team
Identify the roles in your team.
Present a team selfie.
Outline at least 5 norms of collaboration for your team. Use the experience of those who went before you.
Take the Global Goals Quiz to determine possible directions for your project. Present the image from the quiz results page and list the actions suggested.
As an individual
Identify an SDG target (not just an SDG) you feel strongly about.
Identify a related SDG indicator from ourworldindata.org that you feel needs urgent improvement.
Outline a practical way in which the SDG indicator could be impacted by your project. Use the 'things to do' lists on the 'Take Action Today' webpage of globalgoals.org.
As a team
Identify the SDG target your team is thinking about impacting in this project. Make sure you read through the description of this target.
Describe at least three specific problems in our community (UNIS, Hanoi, Vietnam) related to the chosen SDG target that you are considering tackling in your project. Consider the 'circle of influence' image to the right when developing your list.
Justify the relevance of this problem area. I.e. photographs, statistics, quotes from a relevant stakeholder, links to relevant news articles or other sources.
Identify and prioritize the primary and secondary research needed to develop a solution to the problem
7-8 The team constructs a detailed research plan, which identifies and prioritizes the primary and secondary research needed to develop a solution to the problem independently.
As an individual
Identify sources that you could consult to help you in this project. Sources can be people (through observations, surveying, interviewing or informal chats), websites, books etc.
Outline what you are looking to learn from each source in the form of research questions. Do so from the perspective of your role in the team:
Technical lead: Your research questions will focus on existing solutions (products/services) and organizations that try to impact the same SDG target as that of your team.
Marketing lead: Your research questions will focus on identifying the exact needs and wants of possible beneficiaries (the community positively impacted) and benefactors (Buyers, Consumers, Funders).
Business lead: Your research questions will focus on identifying what different revenue models might work for your team's project and how the investment might lead to sustainable impact.
Innovation lead: Your research questions will focus on identifying innovative social enterprises and trying to understand what makes them unique. The social enterprises you are looking at do not have to be related to your team's project.
As a team
Prioritize the relative importance of consulting each source in your research plan.
Note: You do not have to execute the research yet. This is only a plan!
Analyse a range of existing projects that inspire a solution to the problem
1-2 The team describes a few existing products that inspire a solution to the problem.
3-4 The team analyses a few existing products that inspire a solution to the problem.
5-6 The team analyses a range of existing products that inspire a solution to the problem.
7-8 The team analyses a range of existing products that inspire a solution to the problem in detail.
As a team
Identify the name and website of a range of existing projects, social enterprises or charities with a purpose similar to that of your team. If you are a team of 3, identify at least 3. If you are a team of 4, at least 4. The organizations you identify can be outside of Vietnam.
Identify the Benefactors (Buyers, Consumers and/or Funders) of the identified projects. These are the people that provide the income of the organization.
Identify the Beneficiaries (positively impacted community or partner organization) of the identified projects. These are the people who benefit from what the organization does.
As an individual
Analyze the technical, marketing, strategic or innovative aspects of each 'product'.
Technical analysis: What are the main resources used by the organization?
Human Resources - People needed to produce a product or provide a service - People with certain expertise, people to do certain jobs.
Capital Resources - Tools and equipment needed to produce a product or provide a service.
Material Resources - Consumable materials needed to produce a product or provide a service.
Marketing analysis: How does the enterprise communicate with its stakeholders and the outside world? What are the key elements of the project's branding?
Business analysis: How is the enterprise financed? What makes the project possible? What is the revenue model of the enterprise?
Innovation analysis: What is the Unique Selling Proposition of the enterprise? What makes it special or unique?
