Annually, over 2,000 children in Vietnam tragically lose their lives to drowning. This issue is exacerbated by the country's susceptibility to flooding, due to its topographical features that facilitate river overflow. Despite the critical nature of swimming as a life-saving skill, many Vietnamese families prioritise other educational pursuits, such as language learning, over swimming instruction. This highlights a need for increased awareness and education regarding water safety to prevent such unfortunate incidents. Some schools conduct swimming lessons in natural water bodies, posing significant safety risks and potential health issues. These dangers could be mitigated by implementing measures to designate safe swimming zones within these waters. Additionally, offering complimentary swimming sessions, similar to initiatives by organisations like Hue Help, could further enhance safety and accessibility. By implementing these measures, we can create a safer educational environment for children throughout Vietnam, minimising the risk of fatalities.
