According to the HDI index developed by the UN, the mean years of schooling in Vietnam is 4.4 years. This amount is noteworthy, as the mean years of schooling in the US is 13 years, which means there is a significant disparity of 9.4 years. Thus, because many Vietnamese people may lack a proper education or are inadequately educated at a certain level, it leads me to believe that the Vietnamese population may be improperly educated or even uneducated in the proper practices to prevent malnutrition after natural disasters have hit. This could explain why about 220,000 children and 70,000 pregnant women were at risk of malnutrition 1 month after typhoon Yagi hit, and also leads me to predict that if another natural disaster were to hit Vietnam, a significant percentage of the population would be at risk of malnutrition.
