In Vietnam, households use about 1 kg of plastic bags monthly, with 80% discarded after one use. This equals around 30 billion plastic bags wasted annually, as each person uses approximately 200 bags per year. This level of waste places Vietnam among the top ten plastic waste producers globally. With abundant rivers and coastlines, much of this plastic ends up polluting waterways and oceans, exacerbating environmental damage. If plastic consumption continues to rise, Vietnam's ability to meet Sustainable Development Goals related to environmental sustainability will be severely challenged, potentially impacting its Human Development Index negatively. However, there is a solution. Around the world, some organisations have already started efforts to reduce the use of single-use plastic products, such as plastic bags. Some organisations, like EcoBags for example, have already seen massive success elsewhere. This means that our product has a good chance of seeing the same success and making an impact in our UNIS community, Tây Hồ, and even Vietnam as a whole.
