Vietnam's Gender Inequality Index(GII) is 0.378 in 2022 from 0.393 in 1995. Meanwhile, Singapore’s GII is 0.036, a significant improvement from 0.263 in 1990. Other regions have improved gender equality in parliamentary seats, education, and labour force participation, but Vietnam shows minimal progress. Vietnam's maternal mortality ratio is 124.3 deaths per 100,000 live births while the adolescent birth rate is 35 births per 1000 women aged 15-19, with Singapore showing results of 7.5 and 2.4. This data highlights persistent gender inequality in Vietnam, contrasting with Singapore’s development. This causes higher violence rates against women and impacts social dynamics in Vietnam, relating to the issues discussed in SDG 5.2. Addressing the gender imbalance in Vietnam could enhance its GII and contribute to achieving SDG 5.2, particularly focused on gender equality and empowerment.
