In Southeast Asia, the severe neonatal jaundice rate is 251 deaths per 10,000 live births. Yearly, in Vietnam, 103,500 premature babies die within the first 28 days of birth. Premature babies are 80% more likely to have jaundice. This shows that the level of jaundice occurring in Vietnam is very high compared to other countries. In addition, since there are many premature babies born in Vietnam, the amount of premature babies with jaundice will be ever-increasing due to the fact that 80% of the premature babies born will have jaundice. Additionally, the poverty rate in Vietnam is 2.93%. The inflation rate in Vietnam is 3.22%. This shows that 3% of the families in Vietnam aren’t able to afford appropriate healthcare to care for children with jaundice. This implies that since families aren’t able to afford proper healthcare the solution should be to make equivalent healthcare materials but more affordable for families in poverty.
