Vietnam is a country struggling with crippling and increasing poverty. Around 1.58 million people live in poverty in Vietnam, at least 162,000 of them are homeless. Making sure that these people have the right resources is extremely important, as it can affect the health and well-being of these people, as well as directly connects with SDG 11, target 1, “Safe and affordable housing.”Our Phoenix Nest project is to improve the living conditions of people within slum areas, residing in informal housing within Hanoi. This is important because if the illegal and informal dwellings continue, the HDI of Hanoi, and overall Vietnam cannot improve, because without good housing the nation will not be able to fully maximize their living quality and HDI, and the health and wellbeing of residents will be continuously affected. Most people have some sort of structure that they live in, although within the homes people don’t have the resources necessary to live, and have to stay within their homes for fear of them being stolen away. Around the Red River area, for example, there is an increasing rate in informal housing and slum populations. All in all, the quality and illegal homes in Vietnam could threaten the HDI and overall presentability of the entire nation.Being able to provide funds and resources for people in these situations is extremely important, such as by selling products to other people, and using the money to donate to communities in need, or giving specific products and resources, such as medicine, that people might need. Overall, this can all help with improving lifestyles in this area and could benefit a lot of people in areas in need.
