Is the link between innovation and creativity and exploring the possibilities and constraints associated with products or systems. It is human-centred and focuses on the needs, wants and limitations of the end-user. The course provides students with the knowledge to design and make models, prototypes and products, with a focus on developing an understanding of technology, marketing strategies, clean energy production and global issues.
Through studying design technology, students should become aware of how designers work and communicate with each other. While the design methodology may take on a wide variety of forms, it is the emphasis on a practical approach through design work that characterizes this subject.
You can find all official IB Design Technology aims here and a full description of the nature of design here.

Topics are organized into three columns that provide different lenses through which to view the content.
A: Design in theory comprises the theoretical understandings that underpin the course.
B: Design in practice focuses on the practical application of the theory learned.
C: Design in context connects the theory and the practice to real-world contexts.
The topics are also organized into one of four rows: People, Process, Product, and Production
