Introduction to Topics and Topic Selection
Introduction to Topics and Topic Selection
What comes to mind when you think about SCIENCE?
For a lot of us, the first topics that come to mind are things like math, space exploration, how plants grow, or DNA.
BUT science can be many other things, too!
It can also be about children - what they feel, how they think, and what their brain looks like!
Developmental science is the study of human development, and developmental scientists study how children grow up. There are LOTS of questions that we can examine!
This module shows you some of the interesting topics that developmental scientists have studied. As you explore and learn more about each topic, think about questions YOU have about them.
Click on the topics below to find out more about the different aspects of development that developmental scientists study.
You have until November 16th to explore the topics below and identify which topic you want to research more about.
Next, you'll work with your UMN mentor to develop your own research question, design a study, and test your hypothesis about the topic you chose!
What are some rules that you have to follow at school or at home?
Is it always easy to follow those rules?
People differ in how much they can remember!
We have different types of working memory (visual-spatial vs verbal)
There are strategies we can use to improve our memory
Have you seen this face before?
How hard is it to remember a face and what kind of information do we learn from looking at faces?
When you have reviewed all of the topics above, please fill out the form below to select your research topic.
In Module 2, you'll develop a research question and hypothesis about that topic!
