Non-Traditional Project

Spring 2019

Each designer selected one fairytale postcard from the Wonderful World Before Disney exhibition held at the Weisman Art Museum. Utilizing this postcard, the designers created a ready for the runway garment that deconstructs the postcard’s story, identifying universal themes and reinterpreting them for the 21st century.

Requirements of the garment should be comprised of non-traditional, found, up-cycled, and recycled items, and must utilize: Sculptural shaping, Innovative surface texture, & Incorporation of technology (3D printing, laser cutting, etc.)

Inspiration

I was inspired by the time that has passed in the postcard. You can see it in the overgrowth of the flowers and branches and as well as the woman’s hair. My design focuses on the theme of not living life with fear or in short, resiliancy. In today’s society there is immense pressure put on the young generations as well they are left to change and fight the issues and crises going on within the world.

My design’s goal is to show how fear can creep or be a constant part of a person’s mind, body, and soul.
