UMN Vital Signs: A Career Development Newsletter
April 4, 2023, Volume 4, Issue 3
Welcome to the Spring edition of Vital Signs and a big congratulations to the Class of 2023 on their excellent Match! This issue also highlights important information and resources for each class to help your career and professional development process (see the year-specific checklists for expanded ideas).
Keep using and updating the cross-campus operational and opportunities calendar (the more we all use it, the stronger it becomes!). It has events, sessions, research opportunities and more. You can set your own alerts to notify on your tailored interests.
If you are interested in sharing part of your story for future editions of Vital Signs, please contact me directly at baue0437@umn.edu .
Take care, and be well!
Sincerely,
Megan Bauer-Erickson

Update your CV. You can find resources to help you in our workshop materials, the Learn and Explore page and Careers in Medicine.
Consider doing informational interviews to learn more about specialties you are considering and build relationships. You can find information on how to do this on Careers in Medicine and contact Specialty Experts to help you get started.
Residency Launchpad just happened and we hope you have a strong understanding of the residency application process. This covered essentials for residency application preparation. Some live sessions were recorded and relevant links (video/slides) are in the agenda. Watch for emails from resapp@umn.edu as an ongoing guide to the process and deadlines.
If you have not already done so, resister with ERAS, the residency application platform, to add your contact information and create slots for your letter of recommendation. Search your email for "ERAS token" and if you need it resent, email Maija and Megan at resapp@umn.edu to request.
Letters of Recommendation. Be sure to connect with potential letter authors as soon as possible after completing clinical rotations to request a strong letter for your ERAS (Electronic Residency Application System) profile. You can find useful information on letters of recommendation and much more in Careers in Medicine.
You have a couple of ways to pay it forward:
Complete the AAMC Graduation Questionnaire (GQ) before June (see unique link in your UMN email); this is instrumental for us becoming a better medical school for all students. Learn more about what/how here.
Ensure data access for MS-3s by contributing to the 2023 Texas STAR survey by 4/14/23
Stay connected through SIGs and our alumni office
Commencement is on May 5th from 2-4 p.m. at Northrop Auditorium. See this document with all dates, deadlines, and tasks. Celebrate your success as you prepare for residency.
We are excited for the impact you will make!
