Instructions for Pulling Instructor Evaluation Data from CoursEval
Instructions for Pulling Instructor Evaluation Data from CoursEval
Faculty Instructions for Foundations MS 1 & 2 Courses
Students at the University of Minnesota have the opportunity to complete a course evaluation at the end of every course. Starting with the 22-23 academic year, completing course evaluations is considered a required professional expectation of medical students. Course evaluations include questions that ask students to provide feedback for instructors who taught in a course that can be used as data for the promotion and tenure process. As an instructor who taught in a course, you can view and download this data directly from CoursEval. For a video tutorial of this process, please see the bottom of this page.
CoursEval uses a Single Sign On (SSO) process. If you have a UofM Internet ID (X500), you can log into CoursEval using your Internet ID and password.
If you do not have a UofM Internet ID, you will need specific login information. Please contact med-eval@umn.edu for assistance.
You can find more information about CoursEval on the Medical School’s faculty page.
The easiest way to see all reports available to you is to set all filters to Show All and set the Search fields to “Is not blank”.
Type: Two types of evaluations are used in the medical school, Standard and Rotation.
Standard = end of course evaluations (the majority of course evaluations)
Rotation = evaluations of groups (primarily used by the FCT course on the TC campus)
Year: Select the year a course was delivered.
Period: Select the semester a course was taught.
Search: The most powerful filter is the search filter. The two options that are most useful are survey name and last name. NOTE: Course directors have access to data for the entire course and can view data submitted about other instructors.
Survey Name: All survey names include the academic year the survey was delivered as well as the course name (i.e. 2021-2022 HHD 3).
Last Name: You can search by your last name in full to view evaluations that you were listed as an instructor.
The second box allows you to do different types of searches.
Contains: This can be used to enter a year (i.e. 2022 or 2021-2022) or a course name (i.e. HHD or HHD 3) to refine a search.
Is not blank: Will pull all surveys that are not blank.
The final step is to enter information in the text box to be searched, and click the blue arrow. For example, if you selected Survey Name and Contains, you might enter 2021-2022 to see all course evaluations for that academic year that you have access to.
NOTE: If you click the blue X, it will reset these filters.
