Students in the PhD Program are required to participate in Doctor of Philosophy Intensive Experience (DIvE) through a series of required one week, in person courses. For those following a full time program plan, DIvE is Fall of your first year prior to the semester starting and Spring, usually the week before Memorial Day following your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year. For those following a part time program plan, you will work with your academic advisor to determine the appropriate timing to take your three Spring DIvE courses.
Fall - 1st Year (The week prior to the start of the fall semester)
NURS 8201 - Transition to Becoming a Scientist of Nursing (1 cr.): Emphasizes the transition to PhD study and begins the socialization process to the role of a scientist of nursing.
Spring - 1st Year (Typically the week prior to Memorial Day)
NURS 8202 - Developing a Foundation as a Scientist of Nursing (1 cr.): Emphasizes the development of scholarly communication, and development and management of scientific resources.
Spring - 2nd Year (Typically the week prior to Memorial Day)
NURS 8203 - Expanding Leadership and Team Skills of the Scientist of Nursing (1 cr.): Emphasizes continued development of leadership skills with a focus on team science and interdisciplinary teams.
Spring - 3rd Year (Typically the week prior to Memorial Day)
NURS 8204 - Transition to Post-PhD Roles and Scholarship (1 cr.): Emphasizing transition and socialization processes to a professional post-PhD role.
Since DIvE is required to be in person for all students, we invite you to utilize the Accommodations, Transportation & Activity Guide as you make arrangements to join us.
NOTE: If you have access to technology (i.e. laptop, tablet) we recommend that you bring it with you starting on the first day of DIvE, as it will be helpful throughout the week.
If you have any questions regarding DIvE, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Ifeyinwa at gophernursing@umn.edu.
