To ensure you are prepared for the start of your Part-Time MBA Program, the Academic Affairs & Student Engagement Team (AASET) and the University has required tasks to complete after confirming with admissions. All due dates are included below and will be added to as more communications are sent out leading up to orientation. If you have questions on any of these action steps, please contact us at mbasa@umn.edu.
MBA students will initialize their University of Minnesota Internet ID and email accounts. Students are responsible for emails sent to their University account. We ask that students check their University email account daily, as it is the primary form of University communication.
New students will receive access to register within 2-3 business days following their confirmation. Students will receive an email with detailed instructions on how to enroll and degree planning resources.
Fall 2023 courses will begin on Tuesday September 5th, 2023. Please note - many MBA courses will require pre-work to be completed prior to the first day of classes. Pre-work is typically assigned 1-2 weeks before the start of the academic term.
All admitted students' transcripts were automatically reviewed for course waivers at the time of admission to the Part-Time MBA Program. Admitted students should log in to their Application Portal to review their 'MBA Course Requirements Letter' for the outcome of this review.
Automatic course waivers are based on the waiver criteria determined by MBA faculty, and the coursework must have been completed within 5 years of the first term of enrollment. Students receiving core course waivers will take additional elective credits to reach the necessary 52 credits required for graduation.
Students who are not waived of core courses during the admission waiver review process may take waiver exams for selected core courses prior to the end of their first semester of enrollment. Only confirmed students can take waiver exams.
After registering for classes, students can view required and suggested course materials through the University of Minnesota Bookstore website. Textbook information is also linked from the MyU Portal > Academics > My Classes. If you have questions on course materials, we encourage you to contact your course instructors.
Orientation for Fall 2023 new students will be scheduled in August. Schedule will be available in the coming weeks. More details on this program will be available on the Part-Time MBA Orientation Page. Orientation is a required commitment for all students beginning the MBA program.
The Academic Affairs and Student Engagement Team is committed to providing a comfortable, inclusive, and respectful environment for all members of our community. If there is information you feel would be helpful for the AASET to know, including access accommodation needs for MBA Orientation programming, please complete this form.
The Academic Affairs & Student Engagement Resources site will be your primary student resource website throughout your MBA degree. It includes detailed information on University resources, the MBA Program mission and policies, the MBA Programs Staff directory, and more. It may be accessed at z.umn.edu/mbastudentaffairs. We recommend bookmarking this site, as you will reference it frequently throughout your program.
The MBA Academic Resources site is hosted within Canvas, the University's online learning management system. This site houses degree planning tools and links to academic and policy information. You will receive access to this site within a week of confirmation and will receive an invitation to join the Canvas course.
The University of Minnesota requires all students to complete the vaccination requirement. Failure to complete the requirement may result in a registration hold on your student account. You must complete this requirement by the 6th week of your first semester.
If you plan to apply for federal financial assistance, you must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The University of Minnesota's financial aid counselors at One Stop Student Services will not be able to discuss your financial aid options until your FAFSA is received.

The My Finances tab in the MyU Portal provides personalized information on your financial aid progress.
If you have questions about financial aid, contact One Stop.
All Carlson MBA students are encouraged to obtain their U Card prior to the start of the first semester. Your U Card is required for access to the Carlson School and Hanson Hall buildings, breakout rooms, and the textbook rental program.
You can obtain your U Card by visiting the main U Card Office on the ground floor of Coffman Memorial Union. If you are a new student to the University of Minnesota, you can choose to upload a photo online.
Note: if you are still in possession of a U Card issued to you within the last 5 years, you do not need to obtain a new U Card (unless your legal name has changed). As a holder of a previously issued U Card, you need to request access to the Master's Student Lounge, study rooms, and the Carlson School building during non-public hours. This access request form can be found in Carlson Student Resources.
