Boynton Health's Food Pantry is open the last week of every month during the semester (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday), from 12-6pm on the 1st floor of Memorial Union (Room 103A), across the lounge from the theater.
Any student can visit the food pantry. No proof of need is required.
Students choose from available food items during their visit. We encourage students to bring their own bags to carry items. However, in case of need, paper bags are also available.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for UMN students can help you with extra cash to buy groceries. Students can take this initial screening survey to see if you are eligible.

A team of staff from several departments across the university with administrative, psychological, academic and legal expertise. The team operates within FERPA/HIPAA requirements. The goal is to provide a coordinated response to situations arising from students who may have the potential to harm themselves and/or others.
Boynton Mental Health & Counseling now offers a single point of entry for student mental health services, including urgent walk-in counseling available during business hours. Mitch Paradise is the embedded counselor for Carlson Graduate students. Mitch works in collaboration with Boynton Mental Health and Counseling and Carlson to offer individual counseling support. Their services are available at no additional cost and are confidential.
To schedule an appointment with Mitch, you can do so through the My Boynton Portal or by calling Boynton at 612-624-1444. When students enroll at the University, an account with Boynton Health is automatically created and allows for online scheduling and secure messaging through the portal.
If you are scheduling through the My Boynton Portal, be sure to select Embedded Counseling for Carlson Graduate Students.
If you are scheduling by calling Boynton at 612-624-1444, be sure to state that you are a Carlson graduate student and that you would like to be scheduled with Mitch Paradise. You do not need to complete a Mental Health Screening to be scheduled.
Intake/First Appointments are always virtual. Please be sure to select the correct option when setting up your appointment. You will receive a message with telehealth information prior to your appointment. (You must be located within Minnesota for any telehealth appointments.)
If you are ever in need of more immediate support, Boynton Health offers Urgent/Crisis Mental Health Care, which is available Monday through Friday, 8am-4pm.
For urgent/crisis needs, you can call 612-624-1444 or go directly to Boynton Health (4th Floor Mental Health & Counseling Clinic). Same-day and walk-in appointments are available for students experiencing urgent/crisis mental health concerns.
For urgent/crisis needs outside of business hours, you call the UMN Crisis Line at 612-301-4673. (Text option available through the national 988 crisis line.)
If you have concerns about a specific student, you can submit a Referral Form to the Behavioral Consultation Team / OSA Care Program.
Let's Talk: A program that provides informal virtual and in person drop-in consultations for U of M students throughout the academic year. Counselors can listen to specific problems, provide support, help explore solutions, and give information about other resources. Let's Talk is not designed to provide crisis support and is not a substitute for formal counseling.
Boynton Health also offers PAWS (Pet Away Worry & Stress) for the University of Minnesota community which are FREE sessions that feature registered therapy animal teams. The Aurora Center's mission is to serve all victims/survivors/concerned people of sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, and sexual harassment at the University of Minnesota and Augsburg University. The staff at the Aurora Center are available in -person and virtually during business hours, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Clients are able to contact staff via email at aurora@umn.edu or by phone at 612-626-2929. Staff may schedule a secure video conference with clients for follow-up. Aurora;s 24 Hour Helpline, 612-626-9111, remains operational.

The Wellbeing Series: Since 2012, the University of Minnesota's Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality & Healing has hosted wellbeing thought-leaders to inspire and educate the community, organizations, and life-long learners through the Wellbeing Lecture Series. Past speakers like Brené Brown, Atul Gawande, Dessa, Celeste Headlee, Rhonda Magee, and Jon Kabat-Zinn have explored a range of topics including purpose, vulnerability, food and wellbeing, gratitude, technology, and mindfulness, among others.
Mindful Mondays: Mindful Mondays are free drop-in sessions held on Zoom from noon to 1 p.m. Central. Our experienced facilitators will guide you through a series of mindful movements and meditations that will leave you feeling rejuvenated. No prior experience or special clothing is necessary. To increase the accessibility of Mindful Mondays, a recording is made available to all registrants for one week after the session concludes.
All full-time residential program students who are admitted to a degree program and are registered for six or more credits per semester that count toward the automatic assessment of the Student Services Fee are required by the University of Minnesota to have health insurance.
