In which we talk with Michelle Colquitt, Jasmine Kirby, Kolby Peixoto, and Joan Petit about that most harrowing of processes, job searching. They bring perspectives from both the job candidate side and hiring committee side to share advice and insight, and offer commiseration and encouragement for the job seekers out there.
Michelle Colquitt (she/her) is the Continuing Resources & Government Information Management Librarian at Clemson University Libraries in upstate South Carolina. Michelle holds an MLIS from Valdosta State University and a Master of Education in Instructional Technology from Georgia Southern University. Michelle and her team are responsible for acquiring and cataloging both print and electronic serials and Government Documents. In her previous role, Michelle was a Juvenile Probation and Parole Specialist II with the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice in Athens, Georgia. Michelle lives in upstate South Carolina with her husband and cats. When Michelle is not librarianing, she enjoys reading romances, crocheting, listening to podcasts, and writing.
Originally from Chicago, since completing her schooling at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2017, Jasmine has worked as an academic librarian in the U.S. and Middle East. Her professional interests include technology, international librarianship, and library instruction. Currently she is living in Virginia where she is the Online Learning Librarian at Old Dominion University.
Kolby Peixoto is a Reference and Instruction librarian at Bristol Community College. She completed her MLIS in August of 2024, but worked in public libraries for many years before that. Her professional interests include medical librarianship, research and systematic reviews, and mis/disinformation. Some notable projects include a poster presentation at MLA '25, published book and resource reviews, an ongoing systematic review along with staff at Brown Medical School, and two ongoing research projects investigating information-seeking behaviors in nontraditional community college students. In her free time, she enjoys fiber arts, reading (obviously!), skiing, and spending time with her two cats. Follow her on LinkedIn here!
Joan Petit is an Associate Professor, Reference Services Manager, and Humanities and Social Sciences Librarian at Portland State University in Oregon, where she has worked since 2009. She holds an MSLS and a BA in English and Women's Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and an MA in English from Western Carolina University. She previously worked at the American University in Cairo and Duke University. In 2016-17, while on sabbatical from Portland State, she served as a Fulbright Scholar in Ethiopia, teaching information science classes at Jimma University.
