[intro music begins (instrumental, laid back rhythmic strings, drums, and piano)]
STEPHANIE: Hello, and welcome to Library Table Talk. I'm Stephanie Sparrow, one of your hosts.
HANNAH: And I'm Hannah Cabullo, your other host. In Library Table Talk, we're two librarians exploring what academic librarianship looks like in the day-to-day, across different types of institutions and roles.
STEPHANIE: Nothing is off the table.
[intro music gently fades out]
HANNAH: Hello Library Table Talk listeners, and happy Summer! We hope you’ve been enjoying your summer. Maybe work has slowed down a bit, maybe it hasn’t. Uh, for me we are recording this on July 1st and I am wondering how it got to be July already. So hopefully your summer is shaping up how you were hoping it would.
STEPHANIE: Personally I love the long days, my scrappy little garden of wildflowers and veggies, and taking my cat on walks! Otherwise summer is doing exactly as you’re saying, and it’s going way too fast. I hate that it’s July! Other than that, Hannah and I have been working on preparing for Season 2 of Library Table Talk! OoOoOoh Foreshadowing!!!!!!
HANNAH: So this fall on the podcast, we are going to be doing episodes on: determining a research agenda
STEPHANIE: Being a solo librarian, or working at a small a small academic library,
HANNAH: and we’re also putting together another panel interview, this time on job searching. And for the Spring, Stephanie, what’s up on deck?
STEPHANIE: We want to talk about some timely topics, so for our Spring episodes, as of now we are kind of thinking of a theme. And so that theme is libraries through difficult economic times! Seem relevant?
HANNAH: YEP! We have some ideas but we are going to leave things a bit fluid to see what’s going to be relevant as 2025 unfolds.
STEPHANIE: And now, on a more positive note: We interrupt your regularly scheduled summer programming with some Library Table Talk-related news!
HANNAH: We are looking for a guest host for an episode in Season 2, looking to publish in Spring 2026. So one of those three Spring episodes is going to be hosted by a guest host! Since beginning this podcast we have been envisioning ways to get more folks involved with the podcast, plus we want to hear from more people than just the two of us! We want to highlight topics, conversations, and peers that YOU want to talk to and hear about!
STEPHANIE: Applications are currently open and as a guest host you would be responsible for the episode topic, format, and content. Of course, Hannah and I are available to consult and provide support around logistics. Ideally we are expecting that the episode will be recorded by the end of 2025, so the Spring time can be devoted to editing and publishing your episode.
HANNAH: So I’m really excited about this! We really are excited to hear what topics you all want to talk about with your colleagues. So we hope our Library Table Talk listeners submit a proposal.
STEPHANIE: For more details about the application and the rubric, check out our website at z.umn.edu/LibraryTableTalk. We are closing the application period on Friday August 15, 2025. So please, brainstorm, chat with your library pals, and consider submitting a proposal. We’d love to have you on.
HANNAH: And with that, we look forward to hearing about your ideas! You’ll hear next from us when Season 2 begins in September 2025! Until then,
STEPHANIE: Have a great rest of your summer!
