What? The Office of Graduate Medical Education offers a safe place to get professional coaching.
Who? Carolyn Hildebrandt, the GME Organizational Development Manager
Example of topics: imposter syndrome, interpersonal communication strategies, handling critical feedback, time management and prioritizing, managing conflict, career decision making, leadership, preparing for and taking Step 3 and boards, etc.
Carolyn has a Masters in Counseling Psychology and over 20 years of experience in healthcare systems with coaching and developing people. She's been working with residents and fellows for the last 7 years and understands the pressures trainees deal with.

The GME Office offers professional coaching through Carolyn Hildebrandt, the Organizational Development Manager in our office, who has a Masters in Counseling Psychology. Carolyn has almost 20 years of experience in healthcare systems with coaching and developing people and understands the day to day pressures of being a trainee.
Coaching consists of 1:1 sessions that help you make progress on any issue impacting your effectiveness. Coaching provides listening, support, exploration, goal-setting, and accountability.
All sessions are on Zoom, so you can join from your home, car, call room, or anywhere that is convenient.
GME Coaching is provided at no cost to you and flexible in the number of sessions available.
Carolyn maintains confidentiality for all of her clients. Only information that you explicitly specify be released can be shared. Notes are taken, but not part of an electronic medical record.
Just about anything is fair game to work on. Residents and fellows in the last 6 months have addressed issues like:
Adjusting to the demands of a new role, rotation, or attending
Dealing with Imposter Phenomenon to improve wellness
Improving communication strategies in interpersonal relationships with care teams, attendings, other trainees
Working through feedback from faculty to improve performance
Improving time management and prioritizing when the walls are closing in
Managing a difficult relationship where conflict is an issue
Building a stronger presence with attendings and patients
Handling anxiety and intimidating situations in front of attendings and patients
Redirecting and rethinking a career path/ interview prep for fellowships and jobs after graduation
Building self-awareness for future roles from assessment tools
Adjusting to changes/personal resiliency to deal with burnout
Navigating tough situations in your personal life that impact your performance at work
Preparing for exams and test-taking strategies (Step 3, Boards, etc)
Sessions are held remotely via Zoom for maximum flexibility. There are evening time slots on Tuesdays. To schedule, Select a coaching appointment time
