ECE Writing Enriched Curriculum

This page provides a central location for ECE Writing Enriched Curriculum (WEC) resources available to ECE students.

ECE’s WEC program is an ongoing initiative to continuously evaluate and update the teaching of communication skills to electrical and computer engineers. For the purposes of this program, writing is defined as any form of symbolic communication. This includes presentation slides, data visualizations, short memos, technical documents, software source code, formal reports, and research papers.

The WEC program has two major goals. First, to clearly specify the types of writing products we expect our students to produce and place into our course sequence multiple opportunities to complete these types of assignments. Second, to develop learning and teaching resources that augment the teaching efforts of our faculty and the learning efforts of our students.

Lab reports, notebooks, and coding assignments will be continually assigned throughout the undergraduate ECE curriculum. WEC provides guidelines and resources for lab reports, lab notebooks, coding, and more to support ECE students in creating quality writing, code, and documentation. The table to the below illustrates the required writing assignments for core ECE undergraduate courses.
