Transfer Student Info

Prospective ECE Transfer Student Information

The best place for all prospective ECE transfer students to start is the University of Minnesota's Transfer Admissions Office. The transfer admission process is now centralized for all colleges in the Admissions Office at UMTC, and the transfer counselors are part of the larger admissions team. When applying, please make sure to indicate that you are applying to the College of Science and Engineering or CSE

Transfer timing: The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) only admits transfer students for the fall semester. Transfers are not admitted for spring semester start in CSE. (A few UMN colleges admit for a spring semester start, but not CSE.)

Application Checklist for Transfer Students

Upper division versus lower division: depending on the courses that you have already completed, transfers are admitted as a lower division student (pre-major, admitted to CSE) or as an upper division student (declared EE or CompE major).

Admission requirements:  the minimum courses required for admission can be found on this Transfer Admission webpage. Note that completion of those courses will result in "pre-major" or lower division admission. Additional coursework is required for admission as an upper division student. For admission to upper division as a declared EE or CompE student, you must complete all courses indicated with a diamond on the EE Four Year Plan or the CompE Four Year Plan. You can find out which of your home institutions courses transfer to the U on Transferology.com. It's free to set up an account.

CSE Transfer Guides for Minnesota community colleges: pay special attention to the date ranges on all courses because the equivalencies can change when the U or the comnunity college updates their courses.
