Sai Praneeth Reddy Bathena, Ph.D., Dr. Bathena graduated with a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Unniversity of Nebraska Medical Center. He was a post-doctoral fellow with Dr. Birnbaum and contributed to the analytical laboratory and in pharmacometrics data analyses.
Taraswi Mitra Ghosh, Dr. Ghosh graduated with a Ph.D. in Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology from University of Minnesota. Her specialization is in pharmacogenomics of anti-cancer and anti-epileptic drugs leading to the identification of therapeutic targets and biomarkers that contribute to pharmacokinetics, treatment outcomes, and improvement of drug response in human diseases.
Murali Subramanian, Ph.D. Dr. Subramanian worked on developing and validating the simultaneous assay measuring 9 antiepilepsy medications (2006 – 2007). This assay is currently being used in our NIH funded research. He is currently employed as a scientific manager at Biocon Bristol-Myers Squibb Research Centre (Syngene International).
Smita Kshirsagar, Ph.D. Dr. Kshirsagar came to our program with a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and experience in molecular biology. I directly supervised her in developing the genotyping assays used in our P50 program project (2001 – 2002). This work was continued by Erin Klein, an undergraduate in our laboratory who is now working on her M.D./Ph.D. degree. Dr. Kshirsagar continued her studies as a post-doctoral fellow at Stanford University and University of California, San Francisco with Dr. Lewis Sheiner. She worked as a Senior Associate with Pharsight and an Associate Director at Xenoport. She is currently working as an independent pharmacometrician consultant.
Luna Musib, Ph.D. Dr. Musib graduated with a Ph.D. in pharmaceutics. Her work involved formulation of a stable isotope labeled intravenous carbamazepine product used in the P50 program project. Dr. Musib also developed the assays to measure the carbamazepine product in biological specimens (1999 – 2001). She worked at Eli Lily as a Research Scientist from 2001-2004, was promoted to Senior Research Scientist in 2004, and then Principal Research Scientist in 2007. She moved to a Clinical Pharmacology Scientist position at Genetech in California in 2009 and then to a Pharmacology Subteam Leader in 2010 to the present.
Jeannine (Pluhar) Conway, Pharm.D. Dr. Conway was involved in the population pharmacokinetics of antiepileptic drugs in elderly nursing home residents (1998 – 2001). As evidence of her research creativity and educational merit, Dr. Conway received a United States Pharmacopeia Fellowship Award under my direction that was renewed for a second year. She also received an American Epilepsy Society Young Investigator Award in 1999 for research from my Program Project nursing home project. Dr. Conway is currently a tenured Associate Professor, winner of many teaching awards within the pharmacy curriculum, and is currently the Assistant Dean of Professional Education and Director of Teaching, Learning, and Assessment.
Nicolai Kessler: Nicolai is an undergraduate student studying Chemistry and Biology. After he finishes his last year of school in May 2018, he is going to apply to Physician's Assistant Master's programs. In the lab, he primarily works on the MONEAD project, as well as looking into liver microsome metabolism of cannabidiol.
