Birnbaum Laboratory

Translational Clinical Neuropharmacology

Designated as a Center of Excellence for Model-based Drug Development (MBDD)

Our program is designated as a Center of Excellence by Certara.

Our students incorporate analyses and method development using Certara's Phonix software suite into thesis and research projects.

About the Investigator

Angela Birnbaum is a Professor in the department of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy.

She is a translational clinical pharmacologist studying the pharmacokinetics of medications using pharmacometrics as a tool, and with an emphasis on special populations.

Her research focuses on the variability of drug concentrations and response and has included investigations in topics related to the elderly, pregnant women, children, and drug addiction

She is the Associate Director of the Center for Clinical and Cognitive Neuropharmacology, a Collegiate center that investigates how drugs affect cognition.

Her research is/has been funded by foundations, The National Institutes of Health, instrumentation companies, and the pharmaceutical industry.   Read more about Birnbaum Research Projects

Pharmacokinectics Laboratory Core

The Birnbaum lab has expertise in the pharmacokinetics/ pharmacodynamics in special populations including patients and healthy volunteers, children, pregnant women, and the elderly.

Birnbaum lab research investigators are collaborators for grant projects and our laboratory operates as the Pharmacokinetics Laboratory Core.

Lab Focus

The Birnbaum research program includes laboratory measurement of biological specimens and investigations in the stability of drugs in vivo and in vitro; pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies including investigations of bioavailability, pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenomics, drug interactions, and efficacy studies in healthy volunteers and patients.

Her laboratory explores hypotheses directly related to her research as well as operates as a Pharmacokinetics Laboratory Core for projects.   Read more about the Birnbaum Lab Research Focus
