Analytical Lab Capabilities
Angela Birnbaum directs a fully equipped, secure 1000 sq. foot laboratory designed to support drug analysis and related research. The facility is located in 522C, 717 Delaware, Department of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology, College of Pharmacy. It is fully equipped with state of the art instruments, adequate bench space, computer access and hoods.

Lab Instruments
Shimadzu LCMS-8050 triple quadrupole (LCMS/MS) with ESI and DUIS ion spray sources. This state of the art instrument allows for simultaneous ESI and APCI functionality equipped with Prominence series CBM -20A controller, dual LC-20AD pumps, DGU-20A degasser, SIL-20AC HT temperature controlled (0 – 20°C) autosampler with 80 vial or dual 96 well plate sample racks, and CTO column oven with temperature control 26 – 90°C.

Shimadzu LCMS 2010A single quadrupole system equipped with a SCL-10Avp system controller, dual LC-10ADvp pumps, SIL-10ADvp auto-injector, DGU 14A degasser, Fiatron TC50 column heater and an SPD-10AVvp UV detector.
Shimadzu HPLC-UV 10A and Prominence series system consisting of a SCL-10Avp system controller, dual LC-20AD pumps, DGU-20A degasser, SIL-20AC HT temperature controlled (0 – 20 °C) autosampler with 80 vial or dual 96 well plate sample racks, CTO column over with temperature control 26 – 90 °C, and SPD-20A UV-VIS detector.
Miscellaneous: consists of one –20°C, three –80°C freezers, one refrigerator, a pH meter, a Thermo Scientific Sorvall ST 40R refrigerated centrifuge, a Forma Scientific Model 5681 centrifuge, an IEC Micro max micro-centrifuge, a Zymark and GasCol 96 well plate N-evaporator sample concentrators, an analytical balance, a Cahn microbalance, automatic pipettors, vortex mixers and a Branson sonicator. The lab also has two large fume hoods. The analytical laboratory is also equipped with one Dell PC Precision T3500, two Dell PC Optiplex 7010, one Dell PC Optiplex 780, and one General Nanosystem PC. Word processing, graphics, statistical and data analysis software are available on all systems.
