Academic Accommodations for Students with Disabilities

In the United States, a number of laws exist at the national, state and local level to protect individuals with disabilities from discrimination and to provide additional accommodations as necessary. Under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1974 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, students studying at any institution within the United States have the right to request special accommodations relating to their disabilities. Eligibility for Accommodations

To be eligible for an academic accommodation due to a disability students must register their disability and discuss their needs with the Office Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD). Because arrangements must be made no later than 2 weeks prior to the first assignment, it is recommended to begin this process early
