To provide a comprehensive educational experience in a respectful and fun learning environment with emphasis on patient and provider safety that will prepare trainees for confident, responsible clinical practice and an academic career in Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine.
The PRM Program at the University of Michigan provides a progressive experience that includes responsibility for patient care, the development of clinical proficiencies, and the development of skills in communication, teaching, research, and advocacy for youth with disabilities.
Incorporating the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), this clinical training focuses on the identification of normal developmental progress, physical, cognitive and communicative disabilities, environmental and societal barriers as well as the fostering of optimal functioning of children in the context of their families, schools and community.
Scholarly activities are also a focus of this training program with expectations for regular presentations to a variety of learners and team members on clinical cases and PRM topic areas using an evidenced-based medicine approach. Mentored research activities are provided with the expectation of productivity and clearly defined outcomes
