Hello, and welcome to my portfolio! My name is Kristen Engels, and I recently graduated from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in April 2022. I am majored in Biology and minored in Chemistry, all while earning a DA/DC Secondary Education Certificate through the State of Michigan. In fact, in January 2021 I passed the MTTC for biology and in December 2021 I passed the MTTC for chemistry. As of May 2022 I have received my official standard teaching certificate from the State of Michigan. My first passion in life was nature, and this was inspired by our country's pristine National Parks. Since then, my interest in conservation has grown exponentially and I have found that public speaking and teaching have been my chosen outlets for this passion. As an educator, I hope to use my own experiences to motivate the next generation of both professional and citizen scientists.
In general, I consider myself to be a passionate and approachable person. I believe these skills lend well to my ability to connect with students, therefore allowing me to be a successful educator. Moreover, my vast experience in working with students through tutoring and other roles has further contributed to my success in this area. A full list of my previous work and volunteer activities can be viewed in my resume. I look forward to applying the skills and knowledge that I have gained through my work experience and my time at the University of Michigan-Dearborn to my future classroom.
As you navigate this portfolio you will find my views as an educator and examples of my work throughout the "Domain" sections and "Projects" page (quick links to these pages are below).
