CVRE Application Process
Eligibility
The call for applications for the Training Program in Translational Cardiovascular Research and Entrepreneurship is announced annually in the spring.
Predoctoral students in graduate programs of U of M Medical School or the Departments of Biomedical Engineering or Chemical Engineering with projects focused in cardiovascular research.
An interest in expanded training in translational research and research entrepreneurship
Students must be NIH training grant eligible (U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident)
Achieved to Ph.D. candidacy
2024 Application Procedure DEADLINE: Monday, June 3, 2024
Student letter proposes project, how goals align with program goals, and reason for interest in program
Mentor letter will indicate commitment to participating as a mentor and indication of funding that exists to supplement support of research

New applications are being accepted beginning in May 2024.
Support
The program will cover the student stipend and tuition and health insurance at the NIH approved level for a one year period (renewal for 2nd year upon the Director’s approval). The student’s department/mentor will be expected to cover the shortfall between the student’s stipend and tuition and the NIH funding levels. Support will begin on July 1 or at a requested later date in the award year.
Application Procedure for New Mentors
For faculty not currently approved as mentors in the T32 program, the mentor letter should be supplemented with a 1-2 paragraph description of the mentor’s interest in becoming a member in the CVRE training program and highlight any interest or previous experience translational research or entrepreneurship. The mentor letter should be supplemented with 1) an updated CV and 2) a completed mentor information table (an NIH other support page can also be used for grant information). Please also indicate which account will be used to provide the additional funds to cover the shortfall between the student’s stipend and tuition and the NIH funding levels.
