About
CONFERENCE FOR UNDERGRADUATE WOMEN IN PHYSICS (CUWiP)
The Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics will be held for the 18th year this January 2024!
CUWiP was founded at the University of Southern California in 2006 and grew as a grassroots organization until the American Physical Society offered its organizational support in 2014. The first CUWiP in the Midwest was held here at the University of Michigan in 2008, and we are very excited to host it again this year.
In addition to the CUWiP at the University of Michigan, thirteen other regional CUWiP meetings will take place across the country at:
These conferences are centrally organized by the American Physical Society and will share a keynote speaker, Jocelyn Bell Burnell.
The goal of the CUWiP is to empower undergraduate women as they pursue their physics career by providing them with the opportunity to experience a professional conference, obtain information about graduate school and/or other professions in physics, and access to other women in physics of all ages with whom they can share experiences, advice, and ideas. The program includes research talks by prominent female physicists, panel discussions about graduate school and careers in physics, presentations and discussions about women in physics, laboratory tours, student research presentations and poster sessions, and several meals during which presenters and students interact.
