While working hard as a cardiology fellow is a given, Michigan prioritizes fellow well-being within and outside of the hospital. Here are a few of the specific ways that the program supports your wellness:
A 2019 Herman Miller custom design fellow work room with coffee/water and television
Monthly all-fellow meetings to address issues in real time, with the goal of building the ideal fellowship
Strict monitoring and adherence to duty hours
Dedicated wellness didactics and "Joy in Work" conferences
Sponsorship and clinical coverage for fellows to attend national conferences
Benefits through the House Officers Association (HOA) including a competitive salary, progressive maternity/paternity leave policies, holiday/birthday pay, cell phone stipend, dedicated lactation spaces, etc.
Free and confidential counseling and crisis services provided through the Office of Counseling and Workplace Resilience
Department-funded social events, such as the annual welcome barbecue, Michigan football tailgate, ACC alumni event, "Beer with a Peer", and journal clubs at Ann Arbor restaurants and faculty homes.
Outside of these initiatives, our fellows enjoy each others company through spontaneous hang outs, trivia nights, potluck dinners, and wakeboarding on Tom's boat (don't worry - he's here for at least 1 more year).
