Our cardiology fellowship program is "front loaded" with rotations in the first two years that support foundational, well-rounded learning opportunities. Other important features include:
The majority of Cardiac ICU call is completed in the first year
A night float system with all night call completed in the first year
F2 rotations are primarily based at the VA
The third year of training is customized based on your interests and career goals.

We work closely with fellows to define topical, engaging, and valuable didactic education and skills training. We leverage principles of adult learning and make smart use of technology to ensure that what you’re learning is relevant and delivered in the best format. Special conferences include monthly journal clubs, lectures on research methods and mentorship, and joint multi-modality imaging conferences.
Journal Club at Dr. Bisognano's home
During the first 6 weeks of the year, incoming fellows receive a series of high yield lectures, shadow current fellows, and get hands on training in the Echo and Cath labs. We've found this leads to a smooth transition to fellowship without prolonging orientation.
University of Michigan Medical Center: comprised of an adult hospital, a children’s and women’s hospital, the cardiovascular center, and multiple outpatient surgery centers.
VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System
These state of the art facilities are located near each other with limited travel between sites during your fellowship. All supervising attendings are UM faculty.
As a quaternary care center, Michigan’s health care system offers a rare breadth of training experience with advanced specialty procedures and complex and interesting cases, as well as a high volume of “bread and butter” learning experiences.
