Local Groups & Organizations
Huron River Watershed Council: "HRWC is a nonprofit coalition of residents, businesses, and local governments. HRWC bridges political boundaries by building partnerships between and among communities, community leaders, residents, and commercial enterprises. HRWC monitors the Huron River, its tributaries, lakes, and groundwater, and leads programs on pollution prevention and abatement, wetland and floodplain protection, public education, and natural resource and land-use planning."
City of Ann Arbor's Natural Area Preservation: "Natural Area Preservation (NAP) works to protect and restore Ann Arbor’s natural areas and to foster an environmental ethic within the community. This involves conducting plant and animal inventories, ecological monitoring, and stewardship projects in Ann Arbor parks."
Scio Residents for Safe Water: "Our mission is to protect and preserve the groundwater in Scio Township."
Coalition for Action on Remediation of Dioxane: "The Coalition for Action on Remediation of Dioxane (CARD) is a partnership of local governments and citizens that look at strategies to address the groundwater contamination from the industrial solvent 1,4-dioxane, released by Gelman Sciences, Inc. The groundwater contamination has expanded in Washtenaw County to an area over three miles long and one mile wide."
Great Lakes PFAS Action Network: "GLPAN harnesses the collective resources, perspectives, and expertise in PFAS impacted-communities, and fuses it with organizations' own resources and expertise. Together, we work to educate decision-makers at the state and federal level, secure funding for large-scale cleanup, and ensure accountability for swift, comprehensive and equitable solutions to PFAS contamination for people across the Great Lakes region."
Clean Water Action-Michigan: "Our mission [is] to protect our environment, health, economic well-being, and community quality of life. Clean Water Action organizes strong grassroots groups and coalitions, and campaigns to elect environmental candidates and to solve environmental and community problems."
Michigan PFAS Action Response Team: "The Michigan PFAS Action Response Team (MPART), is a unique, multi-agency proactive approach for coordinating state resources to address per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination. Agencies responsible for environmental protection, public health, natural resources, agriculture, military installations, commercial airports, and fire departments work together to ensure the most efficient and effective response."
Michigan Environmental Council: "Michigan Environmental Council drives the environmental agenda in Michigan. We develop innovative policy ideas; communicate them to key audiences in a compelling fashion; and engage our members, community leaders, and residents as effective local advocates for shared goals. By leading powerful, diverse collaborations, we inspire state leaders to adopt pioneering solutions that set a global standard for environmental leadership."
