Learning is an experience, a revelation, a personal act of fulfilled potential.
While an individual's level of college education, grade point average, or accomplishments are things to celebrate and often come with skills that are worthy of utilizing, our potential to learn, grow, and succeed are not dependent on these things. In a world full of open resources and endless opportunities to learn, education beyond formal institutions is more possible than ever. It all starts with potential.
Even so, tools without guidance cannot be expected to prove successful. This is where Educational Technology is essential. An educational science, EdTech combines educational theory and technology to develop impactful learning experiences through the implementation of technology. It requires knowledge of technical and psychological principles that collaborate to deliver information in a way that is catered to a multitude of learners.
With the influence of humanist philosophy and humanist and cognitivist learning orientations, learning should cater to both affective and cognitive needs. As an educator, I strive to facilitate not only the process of learning, but the development of the entire person; to work with individuals to develop the capacity and skills to learn better according to their own interests, experiences, and potential.
What could be more satisfying than spending time, money, and energy into learning things that REALLY matter to you? Things that you, the learner, crave to know. An atmosphere that is engaging, impactful, thought-provoking, and self-motivated. The path to a career that is rewarding beyond salary, because you have predetermined it's significance and importance in your life.
With the potential to learn, the self-driven motivation to do so, and tools that are equitable, affordable, and well-crafted, we are capable of being successful at virtually anything.
