Shaping Women's Rights
2026
Air Dry Clay, Acrylic Paints
"Shaping Women's Rights" includes three pottery pieces made with air dry clay and painted with acrylic paint, one small bowled dish with abstract designs, a ballot box, and a small, flat dish with blocked colors. This project explores women's rights, particularly within voting and women's suffrage, which is an important issue in history and one that directly affects so many. I utilized coiling and score and slip throughout my process, coiling for my smaller dishes so they would stay together well and scoring and slipping for my ballot box. I portrayed women's rights to vote through the ballot box, and through my other dishes, I used traditional "girl" and "boy" colors and intersected them for one piece, showing progress and fluidity through gender roles, and one with blocked colors, showing a disconnect.
