Air Dry Clay, Acrylic Paints
My pieces are of a body shapes trinket dish, a mirror, and a woman's breast. Each piece was made with air dry clay and acrylic paint. The method I used was the pinch method, and the slip and score method as well. I wanted my pieces to bring awareness for body positivity regarding women. I made a woman's breast to show that there's nothing wrong with it, that it's a normal part of basic woman anatomy. As a whole I wanted each of my pieces to represent an emotion women feel about their bodies. However, I specifically painted the breast to represent the sadness women may often feel looking at themselves. The sadness that society has made them feel for a beautiful and natural part of life. The trinket dish was painted red to show the anger women may feel when looking at other bodies. While the mirror was painted green to show the disgust women may feel when they look at themselves in the mirror. Each piece presents the emotions and insecurity women feel when it comes to their bodies because society has shaped our minds into believing that each body needs to look one specific way.
