Air Dry Clay, Acrylic Paints
This pottery set was created using air-dry clay and acrylic paints and depicts different plants and colors found in aquatic habitats. The issue of water pollution inspired this set. The severity of water pollution is a rising issue, and it largely impacts local communities, which is why I chose to focus on small aquatic habitats like ponds. The pieces I created are meant to highlight the beauty of nature, specifically in aquatic habitats, and to bring attention to the issue of water pollution and raise awareness. The colors used represent those typically found in aquatic habitats, and the plant species depicted are commonly found in ponds. Together, the vibrant colors and different plant species represent an ecosystem thriving without the damaging impact of water pollution. The pieces of the set were created through various clay techniques, but most notably the pinch-pot and other hand-building methods, like score and slip, and etching.
