The Weight we Weave
Abstract
This capstone project aims to weave the intricate connections between people's experiences and mental health. The exhibit will include a crocheted tapestry piece of a human's silhouette utilizing mosaic crochet and basic stitch techniques. This will serve as an interactive map of human experiences, where the central audience, made of all demographics, specifically college students, places a marker on areas of the body where their mental health is affected most. Over time, the exhibit will reveal that the participants are the artists and that the tapestry's pins symbolize people's affinity. The curator will research how mental health is impacted by isolation, community, and the process of creating art, referencing works by Shawn Coss and Kartika for inspiration. It will serve as a reminder that healing is a process we experience together.
