In most cases as a new member, you will not yet have the knowledge or certifications required to staff any of the emergency apparatus. You will want to get your training process initiated as soon as possible so that you can be enrolled as classes become scheduled.
Following the steps in the “Onboarding Checklist” in the New Member Orientation Guide (left) will ensure you are informed of station programs and activities. You can offer to join and help with committees, such as Membership, Building & Grounds, IT Infrastructure, By-Laws, and more.
Parallel with getting your training underway, it is important to get to know everyone and equally as important to get everyone to know you. Be sure to attend as many meetings, events, and drills as possible. Every month contains opportunities to meet your peers and become integrated into the UMCVFD culture. Most regularly scheduled activities are in the evening, however there are often ad-hoc Building & Grounds weekday projects as well.
