We hope this list of frequently asked questions can help you solve your query quickly.
Students are invited to BMO1 based on a combination of their overall score and their performance on the full-response questions. It is therefore not possible to give a single qualifying score, for 2023 71 students have been invited to BMO1.
Hopefully the number of students gives an indication of the level.
We will endeavour to get your questions papers delivered to you on time, however we cannot guarantee this as some things are out of our control (for example, postal strikes). We use an external mailing company for the printing and posting of our papers.
If you have ordered the "(QP posted)" version, these should arrive at your school in at least 2 days ahead of the competition. If they have not arrived by 2 days before, you will be able to download the papers from the 'Downloads' section on your Competition Profile. If you have any questions about this, please contact us.
Please note: Question papers will only be sent out if you have ordered before a certain deadline. You can see if you have ordered the correct item, as the item name will end in "(QP posted)". If your item ends in "(QP download)", this means you will need to download and print the question paper at school.
Unfortunately we do not accept Purchase Orders here at the UKMT anymore, to place an order please visit your school's Competition Profile. At checkout you will be able to include your purchase order number and then immediately download an invoice for payment.
Purchases can be paid via BACS or Paypal.
Instructions on how to order can be found on this page.
Your students' answer sheets need to be uploaded by midnight on the day after a Competition. We will send you an email reminder on the day.
Full instructions on how to upload your students' scripts can be found here.
The linked page will give you instructions on how to scan in and upload your answer sheets, how to check them and reasons as to why they may be rejected by the system.
All answer sheets, whether your question paper has been posted to you or not, need to be downloaded and printed in school.
Please remember, that you need to pre-populate your answer sheets with your students' names and year groups before you can download them.
Unfortunately, we do not have the manpower to check your uploads; however, you can check your own uploads by downloading them from the 'Paper answer sheets - upload' tab.
As long as your answer sheets are clear and straight, with the QR code and all 4 corner markers clearly visible, then they should be fine.
Some reasons that your answer sheets may be rejected can be found here.
If your student has automatically qualified for a follow-on round, you do not need to purchase entries for them. These will be automatically processed for you, free of charge, and we will contact you with further details after the first-round Challenge results have been sent out.
If your students did not qualify for a follow-on round you can of course purchase discretionary entries for them. The entries for follow-on rounds will open for purchase on the day the first-round Challenge results are released.
Your student can only sit one follow-on round, either the Kangaroo or the Olympiad.
If your student has qualified for a Kangaroo and you think they would benefit more from the Olympiad, you can purchase an Olympiad discretionary entry for them. This does mean however, that their Kangaroo entry will go unused as you cannot give this to another student.
If your student has qualified for an Olympiad but you don't think they are quite ready and you would rather them sit the Kangaroo, please contact us and we can arrange this for you free of charge.
At the moment, overseas schools cannot participate in the Kangaroos through the UKMT, as the Kangaroos have their own arrangements in overseas countries.
However, overseas schools can take part in the UKMT Olympiads. If you think your students would benefit from experiencing an Olympiad then they can be entered into this through a discretionary order.
