On this page, you will find quick and simple steps to run the Competition for your students, from ordering your entries to receiving your certificates.
If you are already confident in using your Competition Profile, then please feel free to use the offline copy above as a quick reference before running the Competition. If you need more in-depth instructions, please consult the appropriate Handbook pages, linked in each heading below.
On your Competition Profile, click on 'Orders' on the left-hand side in the grey box, then ‘New’.
(If you are not sure which Competition to purchase for your school, click here to find out more about our Competitions.)
1. Purchase Order No: Should you wish to enter one, this is for school use only and will appear on your invoice.
2. Selecting your quantity: Under "No of students", enter the total number of students planning to participate, which will automatically calculate the total quantity of packs required and a price breakdown.
3. Available until: The deadline for placing entries for this Competition.
4. Continue: Once you are ready, you can press the 'Continue' button.
You can enter/edit your finance email before placing the order, where your confirmation email will be sent. You can also download the T&C's and the Privacy Policy where shown. You must tick that you accept them before being able to place your order.
Once you have placed your order you will now see an order overview with two payment options included:
1. Downloading an invoice to hand to your finance department, who can then pay via BACS transfer.
Our details can be found on the bottom of your invoice.
2. Paying by PayPal or card. Paying via PayPal or card is quick and simple. It will guide you through the payment process and you do not need a PayPal account to do this. Simply click ‘Continue as guest’.
Please note: Whether you have paid via BACS or PayPal this will not show up immediately as there is still some manual processing to be done, so please do not worry. Once payment has been received and confirmed by us the payment button will disappear.
Your school has 3 weeks to pay for the competition. If you have ordered entries within 3 weeks of the competition, you will still have access to the materials you need regardless of whether you have yet paid.
On your Competition Profile, click on the 'Answer sheets - download' menu option. Then select ‘Names’
Please note: Answer sheets don’t generate automatically, so may take a little while to show after purchase.
To pre-populate your answer sheets, there are 4 columns:
Column 1 - Your students' first names *mandatory
Column 2 - Your students' surnames *mandatory
Column 3 - Your students' year group code (unique to each event, shown when pre-populating) *mandatory.
Column 4 - Miscellaneous *optional. You can leave this blank if you wish; this is for in-school purposes only and there to help you, so you can order/group your students by a customisable option, such as class.
Helpful tip: You may prefer to enter the data in Excel or Google Sheets, and copy in bulk using keyboard shortcuts.
Double-check you have entered your students’ details correctly and that the year group displayed is accurate. (1).
You can now click “Download” next to the Competition name at the top to download all answer sheets for printing (2).
To download individual answer sheets, simply click the 'Download' button at the end of each row (3).
If you have made a spelling error, or there has been a change in participating students, you can edit an individual answer sheet even after you have downloaded and printed them.
To do this, click on the individual answer sheet, and this will allow you to update the students name.
Once you click save, this will then update the answer sheet and you can re-download it by pressing the 'Download' button next to the individual answer sheet.
Helpful Tip: You can edit a name on an individual answer sheet even after it has been uploaded after the Competition. You may want to do this if you have made a spelling error or if there has been a last-minute changes. This will not update the name on the actual answer sheet, however, it will update the name for any results and certificates associated with that answer sheet.
On your Competition Profile, click on 'Documents’. Then select the competition title (Image shows Junior Kangaroo 2025 as an example), and click on the paper and diagram sheets to download and then print.
Please note: Olympiads do not have Diagram Sheets.
Papers will only be available here 48 hours before the Competition Date. (Except the British Mathematical Olympiads Round 1 and 2. These will be available at 3pm the day before the competition.)
Please note: Question papers are only posted out for first-round Challenges to UK schools. You will only receive question papers through the post if you purchase the 'Paper Posted' package. If you purchase the 'Paper Download' or an ‘Olympiad’ package you will need to download and print the question papers in school.
Please note: At UKMT we closely monitor all Competition activity to help reduce the risk of cheating. This includes checking answers for irregularities across schools. We take this very seriously, in order to maintain fairness for all, and will contact schools where irregularities are suspected.
All Competitions should be sat under exam conditions.
UKMT Competitions must not be sat at home, unless this is a part of a student’s public examination access arrangements, in which case you need to submit a request in advance. You can find our Access Arrangement information here: Access Arrangements
Please consult the Invigilator Instructions provided for you below, as a guide to invigilating on the day and for useful information such as what your students should and should not have access to.

On your Competition Profile, click on 'Answer sheets - upload’
Please note: All answer sheets need to be uploaded to your Competition Profile by midnight, the day after the Competition. We will email you a reminder on the morning of the deadline.
You will need to scan the paper answer sheets onto your computer. If you are not sure how to do this, please ask your IT department for help. You can then upload up to 14MB at a time. If you have too many answer sheets for 1 file, you will need to put them into several different files and upload each file individually.
Helpful Tip: Scanning pages in black and white helps reduce file size, making it quicker to upload and easier to read.
Please note: Do not upload any rough work, blank sheets, or seating plans. Unfortunately, we do not have time to check individual uploads. Please make sure you check your uploads thoroughly. All QR codes and corner markers need to be shown in full and any colouring/graffiti on the codes will affect your results. If the scan is not uploaded properly, you will not receive any results.
We will contact you to let you know as soon as your results are available. When we do, go onto your Competition Profile and click on 'Results and Certificates’. You will then be able to see a list of the competitions you have taken part in this academic year. Once you click on a Competition, you will then see a list of your results and certificates. You can click on these and they will automatically download to your computer. (Intermediate Mathematical Challenge 2025 in example image)
Certificates are available just underneath results. You can download the file labelled “*Your School* Certificates.pdf” containing all certificates for your school, or download individual year groups.
Please note: Certificates are currently only available online on your Competition Profile and will not be posted.
If you need to amend a student's name, you can;
- Return to ‘Answer sheets - download’
- Filter the Competition using the drop-down menu.
- Select a student.
- You can edit their name and click ‘Save’, or 'Save and next' if you are correcting multiple certificates.
You can also click 'Edit' on your school account to change the school name shown on certificates.
To access the markers' feedback on Olympiad solutions, you will need to provide your student with their login credentials for their portal.
Step 1. From your Competition Profile, select the 'Students' option from the left-hand side menu, shown below.
Step 2. Using the 'Username' search box, type in the Olympiad Username prefix (see below for a list of prefixes). This will filter out the logins for this Olympiad only.
Step 3. Click 'Export XLS', shown below. The spreadsheet provided will contain the student's username and password for them to access their portal.
Your student can log in at the following URL: https://challenges.ukmt.org.uk/, where they will be able to see the markers' comments.
Please note: All students will have different login credentials and should not be shared publicly.

You can find out which students have automatically qualified for a follow-on round by downloading the invitation spreadsheet in ‘Results and Certificates’. You can also see if you have any qualifiers on your table of results.
Your qualifying students will now receive a formal invitation to the follow-on round! This invitation will specify which follow-on round they have qualified for and the date on which it will take place. The invitations look similar to the certificates and can be accessed from just below the certificates.
Answer sheets for follow-on rounds can be found under the 'Answer sheets - download' tab two weeks prior to the follow-on round date.
PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE ENTRIES FOR YOUR QUALIFIERS. Your qualifiers have already been added to your account.
If your students did not qualify for a follow-on round, you can, of course, purchase discretionary entries for them using the instructions for ordering above. The entries for follow-on rounds will open for purchase on the day the first-round Challenge results are released.
